Martyrs offers something completly different then what it is......and that's okay so long as the film is still good. Nope.
I love horror and gore. But that's all this movie turned out to be. It has a really good first two acts......then the third act ruined the movie. When all you got is lots of gore, because your movie turned out to have a convoluted plot that wasn't all the good and a terrible third act, you really don't have much of a film to on.
The most dissapointing thing is that the plot twist is one of the things that ruins the movie. That should NEVER happen. It just plain pissed me off. It started out as a thriller/mystery but turned into a movie about a cult who is trying to know what the afterlife is like so they torture woman to the point of them becoming Martyrs so the woman can tell them what they saw. Because as we all know, when you become a martyr yoou can see the afterlife. OH YEAH! Spoiler by the way.
The way they shove the twist at you is annoying and dissapointing. Here it is and that's all there is...
The gore in here did go over the top once or twice for no reason. Not that I'm complaining about that, but, it's not helping the movie.
It tells you that it's a strong movie with a lot in it. But it's not strong, it just acts strong only to reveal that that it's really nothing but a whimpy child. Yes it does have a lot in it but that doesn't make it good. It builds you up to think it's something good and then just says NAW! I was only kidding.
I wish I could give this more but it just was a big let down. It promised a lot only to let you down in the third act. Also making something unrated just to add more gore do NOT make it better. 40%.
