Review of Marty (1955) by Joe L — 30 Nov 2009
While it's a touching story, watching it today, it's amazing that this scrappy little film swept the 1955 oscars. it's a simple, tv-scale love story starring characters who are usually relegated to the best friend roles in other films.
it's about the good-hearted, lonely outsider in all of us - how friends and family wish us happiness, but gaining it means they must adjust their perception of who we are. marty finally meets a girl he can connect with, but must contend with his mother and friends who all feel she's not the 'right one.
' beautiful performances from ernest borgnine and betsy blair.
