Review of Martha Marcy May Marlene (2011) by Richard B — 12 Mar 2012
I liked this psychological thriller quite a bit, even though it was pretty slow at times. Elizabeth Olsen gives a great debut performance and I was very impressed. The film does a tremendous job putting you in the mindsight of the main character and it was does one of the best jobs I've seen a movie transition to flashbacks.
John Hawkes, who has been on fire as of late, is great in this as the leader of the cult. I also didn't know how close this film resembles the Manson cult, until I read a little about the connections.
The ending is very ambiguous and even thogh I'm not a huge fan of ambiguous endings, it really fits with thr film. Overall a very good film that I enjoyed quite a bit.
