Review of Martha Marcy May Marlene (2011) by Anna I — 10 Apr 2012

I was very eager to see this movie for 2 reasons. 1st...I have always been interested in cults and the cult mentality. 2nd...I didn't know the Olsen twins had a little sister and I had read she was really good in this film.

I was not disappointed by Elizabeth Olsen's performance...she was great, believable, serious and intense. I was impressed. The role of her sister was equally well acted. I wasn't so crazy about the movie itself.

I liked the flashbacks that gave insight on the cult life, but the movie ended with a very incomplete feeling. The actual cult wasn't too interesting and could have been the exact replica of everything I have ever read about the Manson Family.
