Review of Martha Marcy May Marlene (2011) by Danny A — 03 Aug 2012
This one goes in for consideration as one of the best movies I have every seen although I struggled with it at first. There is not much original context in this film. The movie uses Manson family lore throughout - look at the poster - one big frickin' "M".
However, whoever T. Sean Durkin is - he may have made one of the best thrillers of the 21st century so far. It is a slow burn of extreme proportions as we get to watch the back story of Martha after she has escaped from the 'cult.
' However doom looms in her exile as well as she faces continual paranoia. Watch it on its own the first time. Watch the Manson documentary made in the early 70s - then watch this again.
