Review of Martha Marcy May Marlene (2011) by Pete H — 31 Aug 2012
Strong performances and cinematography, but a wasted opportunity. It engages the audiences yet takes them nowhere, neglecting its potential as a psychological battle between her past and her present. Chilling but ultimately unsatisfying, due to its lack of answers to How? Why? and What next? Felt like a strong actor-director workshop, but the improvised scenes never came together as a full story.
