Review of Martha Marcy May Marlene (2011) by Nicole G — 25 Mar 2013

This movie stands on the edge of being pretentious, but still provides the viewer with some interesting story telling and very good acting. I can't say I thought this film was genuinely good, but it definitely wasn't bad.

At times it actually is very unsettling and rather disturbing. One of the things that made me feel a bit sour about the film was the horrendous conclusion. Yes, I understand it is intentional for the viewer to come to his own conclusion, but it was not very well done, it left me feeling cold.

This sort of conclusion works well in some films like Lost Highway or Inception, but in this case it was just disappointing.
