Review of Martha Marcy May Marlene (2011) by Graham B — 30 Jun 2014
Elizabeth Olsen delivers a spellbinding performance as Martha, a girl trying to acclimatise back to normal life after spending two years in a cult. The emotional trauma and her unwillingness to open up prove too much of a burden on her sister and brother-in-law with whom she has sought refuge.
It's a captivating story brilliantly directed. All show and no tell here as her life at her sister's is inter cut with flashbacks of the things she had to deal with in the cult.
Truly haunting. Olsen's star is on the rise.
