Review of Marshall (2017) by Alan R — 26 Oct 2017
It should have been called "Thurgood on Trial" - those not paying close attention may think it's a Western. Even if you know who it's about, you think it's a documentary or biography.
What it is an exciting, captivating trial drama, like "To Kill a Mockingbird." Yet it's real, and feels real. It really happened and was a critical turning point for NAACP battles against brutal incarceration of innocent blacks at the dawn of the civil rights era.
The acting is magnificent, the story moves painfully from hopeless to hope, and then to victory, in ways you cannot possibly expect. Exciting stuff, fun, and a great big history lesson as bonus. The audience scores this higher than the critics because the critics are nuts.
