Review of Mars Needs Moms (2011) by Meredith W — 14 Nov 2012
Because the film got mixed-negative reviews and was a big box office flop, it's received an unfairly bad reputation. I thought the film was a kind of saccharinely cute tale trying to be moral (be thankful and nice to your mother.
.. or any parent, for that matter). Its motion-captured visuals and performances were at times very dazzling, and some of the most developed Disney has released in any film. But the Martian characters feel recycled and unoriginal.
Gribble was welcome comic relief, and Mars Needs Moms is by far no groundbreaking exercise in storytelling or writing, but it's not without merit and certainly not to be completely written off.
