Review of Mars Needs Moms (2011) by Christopher D — 18 Aug 2011
Despite some flaws, I enjoyed this film immensely. It was charming. The visuals were lovingly crafted and one can tell from watching that the actors put their hearts and souls into it. The underlying message (we all need our moms!) has been done to death, but the added bonus of seeing a bit of life, color and "that crazy love thing" brought to Martian society made up for it. I would love to take Ki home with me, she's just so darn cute.
I'd say they have made progress with full-CG humans since Polar Express, but they're not completely there yet. There were scenes when I was looking at Gribble and realized I couldn't tell that he was computer generated... others had that "not-quite-human" stiltedness to them.
I would have rated this 75% but the slider wouldn't let me, so I gave it the extra 5% just because I had such a good time watching it.
