Review of Mars Attacks! (1996) by Alan G — 06 Jul 2011
I recently watched this film for the first time in about 15 or so years. At 10 years of age, this film was too dark for my liking. Lots of people died. It made me sad. Now, many many years later I am able to see the absolute ridiculousness in the over-the-top violence/destruction, which is where the film gets most of its humor.
Its stupid, melodramatic, and very deliberate. A parody of an alien-invasion sci-fi flick. Why blow up Easter Island when you can knock over the statues with a gigantic bowling ball? I don't think there's a single serious moment in the film.
