Review of Mars Attacks! (1996) by Brian C — 29 Nov 2012
Tim Burton's very funny homage to 1950's and '60's scifi b-movies and alien invasion films is a real hoot to watch.
With an all-star cast that parodies todays Hollywood blockbusters and a 1950's campy b-movie style, anyone who is a real fan of classic scifi movies or enjoys Burton's somewhat odd humor in his films should find this movie at least somewhat entertaining.
Look for Jack Nicholson in a dual role as the President of the United States and a seedy used car salesman. And Pierce Brosnan does a descent job spoofing the straght-laced scientist / hero roles that were common in classic science fiction films. And the aleins and their ships, based on a series of 1960's collector cards from Topps, fit the tone of the movie perfectly. A truely wacky treat.
