Review of Mars Attacks! (1996) by John H — 15 Mar 2011
Definately a Tim Burton movie with the music that was fitting at first but got annoying fast when every scene with the martians had that typical Danny Elfman crap. The characters are all stereotypes which was appropriate since most of them end up getting killed anyway, so it made it harder to care about them. Although the film spends way too much time establishing that the characters are assholes which we got from the first scene with them. Plus you can pretty much tell off the bat that all the underdog characters are going to survive.
When the martians finally start destroying Earth the film finally hits it's stride and is gruesomely entertaining, and the ending is also nice and cheesy with Tom Jones singing with the animals like a Bambi movie.
Overall it's an interesting film for sure, but sometimes it gets boring and sometimes it's really fun to watch.
