Review of Mars Attacks! (1996) by Scott K — 01 Aug 2013
I finally got around to this Tim Burton (who I usually like a lot) on Netflix instant. Its OK, I guess. I like how the aliens are just plain dumb, but the Americans are somehow even more dumb, which is why they end up getting destroyed.
Its a very uneven movie, trying to force laughs from a very mediocre script. I have no idea why Nicholson needed to play two parts. His President was pretty funny, but his Las Vegas character was way too over the top even for this movie.
The only reason this movie seemed to exist was to allow well known movie stars to come rushing on screen long enough for people to say, "Hey, thats so-and-so!" only for them to get blown away by a Martian ray gun.
The first couple of times was amusing, but...
