Review of Married Life (2008) by Emma K — 03 Sep 2008
The film's main strength comes from the actors. I am down for any film that has chris cooper in it. from 'adaptation' to ' breach' even his small part in 'jarhead', the man is one of the premier actors, period.
he's great in this film. rachel adams though looking quite odd as a deathly blonde, and i'm not 100 percent sure if back in the 1940's, women bleached their domes and left their eyebrows untouched, i'm not sure about the accuracy of that, but she serves her role of looking like a wonderfully beautiful figure of youth that cooper can alllmost touch.
you have the 'matador' pierce brosnan whos' a playboy. the story has the feel of a hitchcock film, a thriller with a murder of an innocent person hanging in the balance. plenty of tension, great acting, I love the feel of watching a film that could have easily been made (and has been made 100 times) back in the 1940's and 1950's.
this reimmergence of these types of throwback movies should continue forever in my opinion. it's a great, solid film with a fantastic scene in which cooper finds out a twist in his story when coming back to ask for his letters.
it's a great performance/moment by cooper played perfect.
