Review of Married Life (2008) by Philip P — 04 Sep 2008
Married Life is an odd little film. It is quite sad, yet pleasant as well. It is very well-casted and the story is good melodrama, if not a little dry and predictable at times. The actors do make up for this though, they make this material stick with you hours after you view it.
Especially Chris Cooper. I have become a fan of his recently with The Kingdom and Breach-he is able to convey so well the internal conflicts of his character with his face. The expressions, the eyes, it all shows a deeper something than his words could ever do, but then again some of his words seem like pure poetry.
It is nice to see Rachel McAdams on film again and Pierce Brosnan has perfected the get around guy at this point that he plays it so naturally you forget he's in character. I also loved the feel of the film, the time set, the music the set and costume design was all very nice-it is an intriguing, brisk film that you will think about alot afterwards, very nicely done.
