Review of Married Life (2008) by James C — 17 Sep 2008
Rented this one because my wife is a fan of Pierce Brosnan. How big of a fan is she? Consider this: I didn't tell her what the movie was before we watced it and I made sure she didn't see the opening credits.
It was to be a surprise. Before he appears on screen he does a voice-over, and she knew who it was just by hearing him. She says he's got a distinctive voice and no doubt he does, but this? I was amazed.
I don't know what she thought of the film...As far as I was concerned Pierce was the weak link, his portrayal of the third wheel being a bit too cocky. Overall it's mildly engrossing and somewhat entertaining.
It seems to shoot in the direction of Woody Allen territory and , by default, Bergman's. To an extent I suppose it succeeded, insomuch as it made me draw those comparisons. It's quite predictable and comes off, at points, like a well made soap opera.
