Review of Marnie (1964) by Jeremy W — 02 Dec 2007
Certainly not Hitchcock at his best, this film attempts to delve into the mire of sexual repression and child hood trauma. Hitch does this in a rather clumsy way with obvious reference to colour and the like.
Sean Connery is fresh out of his first Bond movie and is great as the suave sofisticate. Tippi Hedren over plays her role but as was the norm of the day. This is Hitchcock making his 'pure' cinema.
Overly artificial and obsessively controlling over his sets and environment. The end result is still a great movie though. And if you are interested in movies you should definitely watch this. The scene where she steals money from the safe is a classic.
Hitch really knows how to crank up the tension.
