Review of Marnie (1964) by Bryanna H — 31 Mar 2008
I love this movie. Many have critisized it for its realism, or lack there of. I really can't find much to complain about here. Its a mystery, like many of Hitchcock's works but it isn't about catching a criminal or unraveling a political plot, its about firguring out the title character.
The story starts off with her stealing from her boss and reacting strangely to thunderstorms, the color red and the touch of men. Sean Connery enters the scene, at the peak of his 'Bond' success to marry and understand Marnie.
The title role went to Tippi Hendren after Grace Kelly turned it down. I'm glad she did, because Tippi is so wonderful. Though I wasn't entirely pleased at how the whole thing wrapped up, the acting made up for it, making this movie a must-watch Hitchcock film.
