Review of Marnie (1964) by Naische F — 24 May 2009
Excellent Alfred Hitchcock 1960s suspense thriller with all the stylings that will keep you entertained until the very end. Apparently, this was not well received at the time, as it was deemed to be too much of a thinker.
Sir Sean Connery is in top-form here (as good as he was in 'From Russia With Love' and 'Goldfinger' and certainly looks good in a few scenes wearing a tux too). He marries a burglar with some deep emotional scars and attempts to assist her in overcoming her fears.
The tension is well maintained throughout the course of the movie, with intense dialogue and scenes. Wonderful Bernard Hermann score too. I actually enjoyed this much more than 'Vertigo' and was delighted to see a very early Bruce Dern in a key flashback scene at the end.
Worth a look for both fans of Connery and Hitchcock!
