Review of Marnie (1964) by Perrine B — 30 May 2009
"Marnie" offered Tippi Hedren the opportunity to play a more complex and interesting character than in her previous Hitchcock flick "The Birds". Like all good Hitchcock films, the build is slow, but grows exponentially more intriguing as we draw closer to the revelation of our heroine's traumatic backstory, which is the root of her sexual repression and compulsive theft problems.
Sean Connery is well-cast as the chauvinistic cad who helps Marnie discover the cause of her psychoses. It may not be Hitchcock's greatest film, but it's one of his most underrated.
