Review of Marnie (1964) by Geoff C — 13 Aug 2009
The story is quite Hitchcockian. The actors do a great job. The character development is great. So why am I letting this film go by with a C?
Because of Hitchcock's terrible judgement and bad eye sight regarding one detail of the film that sticks out like a sore thumb;.
At the end of the street where Marnie's mother lives, there is a mural of a boat. You may wonder "Hey what is wrong with that? A lot of places have murals" Well, what is wrong with it, is it was supposed to pass for a real boat! It was obviously painted, and Hitchcock let that into his film, which otherwise, was quite a good yarn. I know it was meant to pass as a real boat because of the lapping of the waves, and the different color of the sky for the night/day scenes.
Really Hitchcock?
