Review of Marnie (1964) by Amanda P — 14 Jan 2010
'Marnie' is a 1964 Alfred Hitchcock film; it's about Marnie a troubled young woman who has an unnatural fear and mistrust of men, thunderstorms, and the color red, She is also a compulsive thief, The story is basically that and involve showing the truth to her mother and in the end it all comes out she get better and trust men again, while falling in love with one. The film is psychological thriller and will keep you guessing until the end because and is a good old rush film that will keep you watching all the way through (Tagline of the Movie "You don't love me. I'm just some kind of wild animal you've trapped!" which is also a saying in the film & "A Suspenseful, Sexy or Mystery"), also the film is based on Winston Graham's novel and was going to be Grace Kelly comeback.
This movie is the best early 60's (1964) Mystery/Romance/ Thriller genre movie ever made and is one of Alfred Hitchcock's top 25 greatest films he has ever done, the music in the film has slight of thrilling and romantic music. I had to watch it a few times to get it, but it's well worth it and is very good guessing film which make you watch the whole film. The movie is Dark, psychological, thrilling, a glorious romantic melodrama, odd, loads of Goosebumps, its crazy, a perfect romance, mystery & thriller. The film is an obsessive delight, also the film has its flaws as it does carry on a bit and can mislead on some stuff of part of the film but it the best of the movie stands out.
The Movie is made on a budget of $2,135,161 and grossed worldwide at the box office $18,690,900 which isn't much but is quit successful and made more of a profit in the UK and Italy box office, while having more better grossing on VHS & DVD sales & rentals. Well of course movie goers had overwhelming positive review from critics and audiences, while Fans of A.H film have been critical acclaimed for this film, as they almost say it's like Psycho, The Birds & Frenzy, the fans have huge respect for this film as it did not do well, also the film was distributed by Universal pictures.
The cast of the film is fanatics and the performance is thrilling and enjoyable; the film has a great cast line-up by; Louise Latham, Diana Baker, Sean Connery (Famous James Bond man) & Tippi Hedren (From A.H the Birds). I think Tippi Hedren and Sean Connery did brilliantly in this dark Romance, Thriller, Mystery film and the other cast did a great job fanatics film.
Overall the film is wonderful it's a clever mystery, romance, thriller and being very enjoyable all the way through the film. The film is amazing/aswome from the legend of 'The Master of Suspense' Alfred Hitchcock bring this little Masterpiece/Epic classic film among its genre & element and Alfred Hitchcock really has out done himself and made a sexy gem of a film (love it seen it soo many times). The film is different worth a watch for adult and A.H fans its decent acting, storyline, plot and its effects, a brilliant early 60's (1964) film. Love this movie as many Alfred Hitchcock movie I like as well!. Lv It!!
