Review of Marnie (1964) by Kevin N — 01 Jun 2010
This film tends to be overlooked and underrated in my opinion but it's better than it gets credit for. Without giving it away, it has several suspenseful moments with that special Hitchcock touch and the party scene is reminiscent of the party scene in Notorious.
Sean Connery was especially good in his roll and Tippi Hedren was quite good too - I think better than she was in The Birds. There is a lot of psychological exploration in the story and it gets criticized for that.
But - it works with the suspense well because while the film is about Marnie - we join Mark in trying to understand her and figure out her story. It's a solid movie and worth a viewing if you're a Hitchcock or Connery fan - or just like psychological dramas.
