Review of Marnie (1964) by Roger R — 23 Jan 2011
Archetype strong male figure Sean Connery is not only handsome, muscular and suave, he is also very rich. He has a rescuer fantasy. This is a courageous film even for Hitchcock as the fact that Marnie has been sexually abused as a child and that is the reason for her current behaviour is more than hinted at.
That repeated childhood abuse, deprivation, neglect and trauma can be "cured" with confrontation, reliving and catharthis may be true, but it takes years not one episode.
