Review of Marmaduke (2010) by Penny H — 30 Oct 2010
I was not aware that Marmaduke was based on a comic strip- why should I since I am not a kid! LOL..anyways this movie unlike other animal films is clearly aimed at children but if you like dogs then you will like this one (hopefully).
I give credit where credit is due and the computer generated effects were good, especially dogs dancing in unison towards the end. Also our Great Dane (Marmaduke) talking to the audience during the film was cute.
The storyline follows Marmaduke's owner who is an advertising executive Phil Winslow (Lee Pace) gets an offer to head the account for a California-based dog-food company, so he uproots his wife, the three kids, and of course their beloved Great Dane, Marmaduke (voiced by Owen Wilson), from Kansas to the Sunshine State.
Once there, Marmaduke befriends a group of mutts at the local dog park, but after a surfing competition brings Marmaduke celebrity status, he turns his back on his new pals. Eventually, a disaster helps the oversized hound and Phil learn about the importance of family and friendship.
The dog characters of Mazie who was in love with Marmaduke but completely ignored by him for the looks of Jezebel and Raisin won me over..Raisin (dachsund) was so wise, Carlos his feline brother was cute, Bosco was a bully who gets taught a lesson.
Overall okay film with a valuable lesson about friendship. Sadly some adults out there need to apply that lesson because the "pedigrees" is not ALL that matters! Recommended..
