This is more than a stupid dog movie. A stupid dog movie wouldn't have been able to make me fear having kids someday, or have a scene where a young girl is shot in the neck. "Marley & Me" is an honest adaptation of what I believe is a columnist's semi-auto-biography as framed by the life of "the world's worst dog" Marley.

He grows and changes while his dog eats telephones and dry wall, and for the most part, this is all very charming and well done. There's absolutely nothing new here, and I'm certain the book is probably a more rewarding experience than this movie if this is your sort of thing, but that didn't stop me from tearing up when the movie hit its "Old Yeller" moment near the end.
