Review of Marley & Me (2008) by Shailen S — 30 May 2011
This movie will appeal most to dog owners and is a biography of how an unruly dog, though rather over-dramamtized, becomes a part of a growing family and the emotional attachments that are laid bare on its aging and eventual passing.
Owen Wilson's character sums it up well: "A dog has no use for fancy cars, big homes, or designer clothes. A water logged stick will do just fine. A dog doesn't care if your rich or poor, clever or dull, smart or dumb. Give him your heart and he'll give you his. How many people can you say that about? How many people can make you feel rare and pure and special? How many people can make you feel extraordinary?".
I had tears in my eyes towards the end, and I think a lot of dog owners will relate. Keep the Kleenex handy.
