Review of Marley & Me (2008) by Sandra V — 04 May 2014
A sweet and often wry look at life with a rowdy dog. Not as saccharine as you would expect, this film has plenty of drama in the relationship woes of Aniston and Wilson (who play off each other well) and issues of family life.
The dog is not so much the focus as a constant in the characters' changing lives who occasionally throws things for a loop. He does have much to teach his family and the audience, and this makes the film life-affirming and feelgood.
The ending is a real triumph and anyone who has ever loved a pet (or has a heart) will reach for the tissues.
