Review of Marley (2012) by Adam E — 29 Dec 2012
"Marley" posits itself not only as the definitive documentary concerning the eponymous titular focus but also as a definitive in terms of music documentary. Blending superbly the need to highlight not only the life but the music of the late star, a combination which could easily have descended into an eclectic and weary-some mix of interviews and panoramic shots consisting of musical interludes.
It's also worth mentioning, aside from the fascinating Marley himself, that those interviewed who knew the man (or legend) personally, include characters larger than life, who don't hold back on the trials and tribulations of not only knowing, living, working and loving Marley but also the wider political context of how and why Reggae was important and wonderfully vibrant in a tempestuous political period for the small nation of Jamaica.
