Review of Marked for Death (1990) by Graham S — 18 Jul 2007
"break arm like the white boy Hatcher..." yup, Ruc and Rock, the duo formerly know as Heltah Skeltah, said it all. "I be like Screwface, I'll gauge your eye out" I miss Heltah Skeltah and the whole 1st generation Boot Camp Clique. Black Moon is the shit, disgree and lose the game of life. I wonder if I have a point? Oh yeah, this movie was a total period piece for me. That period was all about blunts, drinking underage at Vertigo's, military fatigues, vegetarianism, and a fascination with all dread culture. Can I get a shout out for the old Survival shop? Back when Oliver was running it, and they actually had a ton of music for sale. Thats where I bought my "super Ape Inna Jungle" by Lee Perry. I wanted dub, and got crazy jungle techno. I still kinda like that shit. Like Marked for Death. I still kinda like this flic too.
The acting is terrrible... Seagal is such a douche, its like when handicapped people trip, you really shouldn't, but by god you are compelled to watch... Screwface, the Dread drug dealer, with his idiotically stupid posse, is turning the high school kids onto the ganga and the powders. Hatcher must fuck him up. Mayhem ensues. Thats really all you need to know. There are some funny voodoo scenes. Seagal's akido is not as unbelievable as it is today.
Check this movie out with low expectations. Preferably drunk. Lotsa good lines. This makes me miss the days of walking across Clifton, sitting in the Smoke Shop, being King of the world...
...and so on and so forth...
