Whereas The Squid and the Whale managed to tackle difficult characters in an eloquent and even comical fashion, this film succeeds only at being excruciating, migraine-inducing self-pity porn.
If I wanted to see amazingly pretentious J-Crew caricatures being awful to each other (while tossing in needless literary references, of course) I would still be in college.
I deeply, deeply hated this movie.
