Review of Margot at the Wedding (2007) by Deb S — 23 Oct 2008
I was fascinated by Margot At The Wedding, mostly by the characters and how "unhollywood" their interactions were. A pot full of mood disorders. It felt more real than most films I've seen this year. As real life is messy, doesn't make sense and never works out quite as you would expect. Margot, played by Nicole Kidman thinks everybody has autism and seems to suffer from Borderline Personality Disorder. Her son Claude, brilliantly played by young Zane Pais bears the brunt of her mood swings and odd quirks. When his cousin notices that he's growing a mustache, he tells her him Mom bleaches it.
Jennifer Jason Leigh's talent shines through her character Pauline, who is stuck between Margot and Malcolm. In my opinion Jack Black wasn't as believable as I had hoped but he is adorable as Malcolm.
I found this film so interesting I would like to see it again.
