Review of Margot at the Wedding (2007) by Sofi Y — 06 Nov 2008
An intellectual with problems is the basis of the film. i'm really starting to love the name margot. noah baumbach has become less anderson-esque and it's not for the better. the squid and the whale was the better movie on all accounts.
I did, however, like how the movie wasn't glamorized at all and it was just people dealing with their problems (or not). it wasn't as warm as the squid though. I felt less engaged (pun intended) throughout the film, but at the end of the film, it becomes a little warmer.
I can't describe it, the movie just isn't that good, but it is decent. nicole kidman was spot on. I used to think she couldn't act, but she did in this movie. I can't promise that will ever happen again.
the cuts are great, though. the pace never settles.
