Review of Margot at the Wedding (2007) by Andrew C — 01 Jun 2009
Dysfunctional families are a staple of modern American independent cinema and although Baumbachâ??s follow-up to the critically acclaimed The Squid And The Whale might not have much to say itâ??s a better film.
Really itâ??s more an opportunity for the cast to get their teeth into some good roles and they donâ??t disappoint until the final third of the film. Jennifer Jason-Leigh is the pick with a wonderfully natural showing that contrasts with Kidman who still gives a decent show.
Jack Black surprises as one of the love interests until he's asked to really act and his performance then falls apart. I enjoyed it even if I'm not sure I was that bothered about what happened to the characters.
