Review of Margot at the Wedding (2007) by Michael L — 21 Jun 2009
Pretty bad. I had moderate expectations because who doesn't like watching someone else's dysfunctional family at times, right? Also, I usally enjoy looking at Nicole Kidman and the film seemed to have a good pedigree. I can't really think of any redeeming qualities here though. Unlikable characters + somewhat unbelievable situations = a film that just never resonates. When John Turturro arrives about midway through as the husband with whom Margo is about to separate, you wish he would stick around longer than two scenes because he's the only sane and likable character in the movie.
Not Kidman's finest hour at all, and Jack Black establishes pretty clearly that he can't carry a real dramatic role.
