Review of Margot at the Wedding (2007) by Ali S — 31 Jul 2009
Another difficult movie to rate. I thought the story was kind of dull but, at the same time, I was absolutely fascinated by the characters.
The acting is really really good, especially Nicole Kidman and Jack Black. They capture the characters perfectly. I think a combination of good acting and good writing makes these characters seem so real. They come so alive that the viewer is left feeling uncomfortable, as if dropped into their living room and witnessing their private moments. In no way are they your typical characters that can be put into boxes.
All that being said, it's boring. There's really no way around it. So, while I think this would have made a kick ass short, it falters as a full-length film.
