Review of Margot at the Wedding (2007) by Christopher H — 24 Jul 2010

With Noah Baumbach's last venture 'The Squid and the Whale', it was tough at times to empathise with the bitter characters but easy to enjoy the film, this follow up however misses the mark.

It's full of frustrating and miserable characters that are utterly unlikeable with the only exception being Jack Black who is at times very funny. Maybe this would be ok if the film actually went anywhere, instead it is devoid of any sort of plot and feels pretentious.

Filming a reunion of a dysfunctional family is ok if things move on from here, but everyone (maybe even the director) is a little too self involved to think about the audience.
