Review of Margin Call (2011) by Brett B — 23 Feb 2012
MARGIN CALL does an admirable job of translating extremely complex subject matter into something easily digestible for the average audience. The cast is phenomenal, with many great actors getting numerous moments to shine (some might consider that a drawback, because it almost feels like the movie saying "Hey, Jeremy Irons needs to have another scene, here, and Stanley Tucci needs to come back into play," etc.
). The screenplay by writer/director Chandor is very strong, and it rather skillfully depicts a situation slowly going to hell in a compelling way without becoming unrealistic, which would have been the kiss of death for a film based - however loosely - on real events.
