Review of Margin Call (2011) by Marty H — 22 Jun 2012
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS MOVIE.
Other then the Jeremy Irons-MIS-CAST, the acting WAS solid. The film is smart if you are an investment broker or a mathematician or actually one of the characters from the actual investment firm that was responsible for our 2008 economic meltdown. If you are not any of those people, then you will be struggling to understand what is going on. They don't explain it, almost as if the actors themselves don't quite understand what exactly is going on as well!
If you are one who is very interested in understanding and knowing about the drama behind the recession, then study up. this film relies on good looking young actors like Zachary Quinto and Penn Badgley to pull you along for the ride whether you know about derivatives and unfair trading and lending practices by investment firms and Wall street traders or not.
I did not get through the entire film, the interest just wasn't there for me. My 1 star rating may be a little misleading because of this. I just saw too many flaws from scene to scene to keep me involved. and Jeremy Irons, I love you, but please HANG IT UP. thank you.
