Review of Margin Call (2011) by Chris B — 07 Jul 2014
For a film on a Business in peril and a financial meltdown all captured on the inside in a 24 hour period, "Margin Call" is gripping drama and filled to the brim with amazing performances from it's smartly gathered cast.
Kevin Spacey turns in the best and most nuanced performance as a high level manager who wears his conscience on his arm and takes much slack from the CEO and other managers for it. The film features a dark and perfectly complacent score that helps ground the film and add another layer of depth to the proceedings.
For a film with no explosions or barely even raised voices, this delivers in every area and makes for a solidly acted and thought-provoking watch. Not only is this a critical and intimate look into the actual financial meltdown of 2008 that it's based on but on the characters and people involved and the decisions they had to make.
If you are into wonderfully acted films or like anything to do with finance or business then this will not disappoint!
