Review of Margin Call (2011) by Rob L — 17 Jan 2013
As Jeremy Irons character admits towards the end of the this great addition to the financial crisis movie genre (see also Inside Job), money is only there to stop us killing each other for food.
Indeed, it'sa terrific performance from Irons as the grandee boss of a firm about to go the wall, stewarding with a light touch a cabal of go-getting financiers - a group depicted in many shades of grey - the movie avoids cliches and caricature of the Gordon Gekko variety.
Cesc Fabregas lookalike Zachary Quinto is the junior stff member who blows the whistle after an enjoyably horrific multi-sacking scene that recalls George Clooney's film from a year earlier, Up in the Air, while Stanley Tucci, Kevin Spacey and Paul Bettany all excel.
