Review of Margaret (2011) by Wayne M — 12 Jul 2012
Ambitious, disturbing and sometimes confounding this film will leave you thinking and feeling for days. Anna Paquin is sublime as the conflicted teenager who witnesses a fatal bus accident and spends the rest of the film trying to come to terms with what she saw.
The second film from acclaimed playwright Lonergan was actually made in 2006, but severe editing issues almost made it not see the light of day. Thankfully it has, for this film probes and questions the realities of guilt and responsibility in post 9/11 New York.
This long film, 2 and a half hours, won't be for everyone but it will reward all seekers of challenging cinema.
