Review of Margaret (2011) by Aidan H — 15 Jul 2012
There's nothing like an aimless indie movie about dysfunctional teens and their liberal parents to get me frantically searching for the STOP button and none more so than this flabby, inconsequential bilge from writer/director Kenneth Lonergen.
Paquin is perfectly cast as the awkward and eminently punch-able protagonist, who spends an interminably long time whining after inadvertently causing the death of woman. Backing her up is an array of B-list stars who should know better and add as much to the proceedings as the interminable shots of NY streets and meaningless cuts to exercise clubs etc.
Vapid, dull and infuriating, the dialogue is as colorless as its unsympathetic lead character and its aimless self-indulgence massacred my patience after an hour. For medicated New Yorkers and emo brats only.
