Review of Marebito (2004) by Gail Q — 27 Oct 2007
After the likes of Gozen and Visitor Q nothing really surprises me anymore when it comes to Japanese movies. But what was surprising about this was how, well, un-bizarre it turned out to be. I was expecting to be really turned on my head, but unfortunately the visuals failed to really capture you. True, there were a couple of fairly surreal moments and still shots, but on the whole the visuals didn't impress.
Some folks on IMDB have commented that the depth of the movie in terms of the main character's inner thoughts etc can only be appreciated and understood if you watch the show at least twice, but to be honest I don't know if I have the patience (or the time) to sit through this a second time. Perhaps someday.
