Review of Maps to the Stars (2014) by Andy W — 08 Feb 2015
Cronenberg's latest is definitely one of the most intriguing films I've seen in a while. It's a twisted, understated world with a lot of background under the surface that is only slightly touched upon when we meet our unlike-able cast of characters.
There's just something about the atmosphere and feel of the film that really pulled me in and though it is far from Cronenberg's best it's definitely a few steps above Cosmopolis. The script is definitely far from perfect but the ideas and implications throughout it are just so damn interesting.
The acting isn't at all naturalistic but that's kind of the point and just the selfishness and indulgence of the characters is a great jab at Hollywood. A very flawed but also very interesting film.
Now I want Cronenberg to follow up with something really exciting.
