Review of Mansfield Park (2007) by Suvi L — 04 Feb 2008
Much of the weakness of this version is due to the short amount of time allotted--only about ninety minutes, with the result that the characters were not developed as much or as well as they could or should have been.
Whole chunks of the book had to be cut out. The other main weakness was due to the casting of Billie Piper. Fanny Price is an entirely different kind of character from Elizabeth Bennett--perhaps almost Elizabeth's opposite--and Billie isn't quite able to capture Fanny's combination of simultaneous social timidity and firmness of moral character.
