Review of Man's Favorite Sport? (1964) by Serena B — 03 Apr 2008

I was cringing throughout the first 10 minutes, because this film is obviously Howard Hawks trying to recapture the magic of Bringing Up Baby, with many of the same gags. As someone already said, Rock Hudson is no Cary Grant and Paula Prentiss is no Kate Hepburn, and at first it shows.

..and then Prentiss' hand smashes down on an ashtray, making it go into a fish tank, and I was able to let go of the comparisons and just enjoy the film, and I genuinely laughed hard throughout the whole thing.

Rock Hudson is actually funny (who'd of thunk?) and Prentiss is hysterical (it's surprising and sad that her career never really took off). Highly recommended.
