Review of Mannequin (1987) by Steve B — 12 Jun 2012
One of my treasured and favoured 80's quirky and 'cheesy' flicks! Back in it's heyday as young as I was Kim Cattrall was stunning and a imaginative fantasy. This movie seems colourful throughout taken from Jonathan and Hollywood's outfits and shop displays and the size, range and colours of the competing stores.
GW Bailey also features from the Police Academy movies and is his usual silly, assertive self. This movie just has a really good 'feel good' factor and is very lighthearted in all sense. Good intro animation sequence and some nice electronic synth music as well as a few spunky 80's vocal tracks for example, 'Starship / Nothings Gonna Stop Us Now'.
Great use of a huge department store as the backdrop to this movie and have considered starting the trend off wearing bowling shoes as does Jonathan Switcher, may not go down well with colleagues, friends and family! Over the top 'Illustra' security guards, including 'Felix' and the sleazy characters played by James Spader and Steve Vinovich all go into the mix for a fun movie that's not serious at all.
